When the British threaten to annex Oudh State in 1856, two wealthy noblemen, Mirza Sajjad Ali and Mir Roshan Ali, abandon their responsibilities and flee to a remote village to indulge in their passion for chess, but their self-centredness and detachment inadvertently fuel the annexation.
